Sean Bardwell of SBQue could be the Willy Wonka of barbecue spice. After tasting his OG Rub on pork, and viewing his creations on his Instagram site, this guy is an outside-the-box barbecue connoisseur.
The United States Postal Service dropped off a small package of goodness last week, and after getting a whiff of the contents, we couldn’t help ourselves to get into the Grillax Test Kitchen as soon as possible. We opted with the butterflied pork loin. We threw some asparagus in the grill basket, and toasted a Ciabatta loaf over the coals just to round out what was to be a grand supper, indeed.
This cut of pork was perfect for the OG Rub, giving it a bold, adult flavor, with just the right amount of sweet.
Sean Bardwell is … Wonka?
With his unique flavor combination — brown sugar, paprika, black pepper, salt, cumin, chipotle chile powder, cayenne pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, celery salt, rosemary, thyme and sage — the fun fest happening with each bite is amazing. Perhaps his needs his own bbq spice factory!
Bardwell was raised on BBQ. His best childhood memories were being with his father cooking on an old Weber kettle grill. BBQ was a treat for Bardwell. He spent summers in Arkansas with grandparents who also fed his BBQ cravings. To this day, BBQ reminds him of his childhood.
Bardwell has published his very own e-cookbook. It contains 17 original recipes all created by Sean Bardwell. The free cookbook can be downloaded at http://store.blurb.com/ebooks/296973-sbque-recipes. When you finish reading the cookbook you will ask, “Is there any food Bardwell won’t smoke?”
“I’m very passionate about BBQ and desire to learn as much as I can about it,” Bardwell said. “My ultimate goal is to one day open my own BBQ shack.”
