Hail to the King Burger is not only a tribute to Elvis but also the actor Bruce Campbell and one of my favorite characters he portrayed, Ash Williams.
As most people know, one of Elvis’ favorite sandwiches was Peanut Butter, Banana & Bacon.
Considering it’s #BurgerMonth I felt I needed to step it up a bit for the Hail to the King Burger, so I started with a 50/50 Beef/Maple Bourbon Bacon blend seasoned with my Coffee Dry Rub.
I placed the Hail to the King Burger on a home made Banana Jam and topped it with a Peanut Butter BBQ sauce.
In the words of Ash Williams, this Hail to the King Burger is “Groovy!”
Constructing Hail to the King Burger
Banana Jam
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 3 Tbsp. lime juice
- 2 cups (5-6) mashed bananas
Combine the sugar and water in a saucepan; bring to a boil, and boil for about 10 minutes. Stir in the lime juice and banana. Reduce the heat to low; simmer, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens, about 45 minutes.
Peanut Butter BbQ Sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 3 Tbsp. soy sauce
- 2Tbsp. peanut butter
- 2 Tbsp. honey or maple syrup
- 2 Tbsp. cider vinegar
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. clove
- 1/4 tsp. ginger
- 1/4 tsp. crushed pepper
Combine all ingredients for the Hail to the King Burger sauce in a medium mixing bowl.
Burgers
- 1/2 lb ground beef (90 percent lean)
- 1/2 lb (preferred) bacon, ground
- Coffee Dry Rub (preferred brand)
- 4 Martin’s Potato Rolls (or preferred bun)
Divide the meat into 4 equal portions (about a 1/4-pound each). Form each portion loosely into a 3/4-inch thick burger and make a deep depression in the center with your thumb. Cook the burgers using your desired method after seasoning with the Coffee Dry Rub. *Due to the raw bacon, cook the burgers all the way through.
Spread Banana Jam on the bottom bun. Place on Burger on top. Top the Hail to the King Burger with Peanut Butter BbQ Sauce. Cover with the bun top and enjoy!
Happy Grilling!

Banana jam? Peanut butter BBQ sauce? I’m in awe. This sounds so interesting and so delicious at the same time. I’ve GOT to try it.
