Here is a copycat recipe we call Cray-Bay (because we’re crazy for Old Bay) that is pretty darn close to the real thing, and useful if you can’t grab a shaker of Old Bay at the local market.

If you are a fan of Old Bay Seasoning, you love this rendition created in the Grillax Test Kitchen.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Tbsp finely ground dried bay leaves
  • 1 Tbsp celery salt
  • 2 tsp dry mustard powder
  • 2 tsp ground smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp ground celery seeds
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp ground white pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp lemon pepper
  • 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp ground mace
  • 1/8 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/8 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/8 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/2 tsp ground cayenne
  • red pepper flakes to taste

Instructions
 

  • Combine all ingredients until thoroughly mixed. Store in a dry, tightly closed jar for up to 6 months.
