Caveman Burger … just the name will turn a head at a friend’s grill session or favorite burger joint. We’ve come up with some additions to a burger from movies about prehistoric dudes, or at least references from them.

Eddie Murphy killed us with his rendition of his father talking to his brother, Gus, at a family cookout. This is how we got the idea for the three-quarter pounds of beef for the Caveman Burger.

“Gus! Gus, can i ask you a question? Come here, let me ask you a question, Gus? Gus, let me ask you a question. Gus, why’s the fire so big? Why did you made the fire so big, Gus? Look at this shit. It’s a motherf***in ridiculous, Gus. The fire’s too motherf***in big! Why? You come over every motherf***in years, Gus and you burned down my motherf***in backyard. WHY? I’m cookin motherf***in hamburgers and franks! I’m not cookin the motherf***in brontosaurus burger in this motherf***er. This ain’t the motherf***in Flinstones, Gus. It’s my HOUSE, motherf***er!”Eddie Murphy: Delirious (1983)

Then there was that outstanding actor Ringo Starr as Atouk in 1981’s ‘Caveman.’ We got the idea for the egg on the Caveman Burger from Atouk telling Lana “Ool” when they pushed an egg on a volcanic vent and fried a prehistoric egg.

Caveman Burger

  • 3 pounds 80/20 ground beef
  • 4 fried eggs
  • 12 strips fried bacon
  • 2 avocados, sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, sliced
  • 4 slices Havarti cheese
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • Yellow mustard
  • Yellow onion, grilled (optional)
  • Large white bread buns

Create four (4), three-quarter pound patties with the beef and square them off. Create a dimple in the middle so the burgers won’t expand to much and become a beef ball while grilling.

Place the patties on the hot grate over your hardwood in the Breeo DoubleFlame fire pit. Add Gaston’s Seasonings liberally and let the burgers grill for 4-6 minutes.

Flip the burgers and season again for another 3-5 minutes.

Check the internal temperature of each burger to verify each has reached 160 degrees. A Thermapen ONE is perfect for quick checks of internal temperatures of beef.

Construct your burger on a bun, slathering mustard on the bottom bun before adding a patty. Then add cheese, avocado, egg, onion and bacon.

It’s all in fun, but tasty for our appetites!

Happy Grilling.
